A FAMILY-RUN Italian restaurant in Glasgow's city centre has announced its closure after almost two decades.

Viva Ristorante on Bothwell Street has revealed their decision to shut the premises on their Facebook page.

It read: "It’s time to say goodbye…

"Unfortunately, with a heavy heart, it’s now come time for us to hang up our aprons, put away our notepads and close the doors to our Viva for the last time. After 17 long amazing eventful years."

The note goes on to thank staff for their hard work and customers for their support and loyalty over the years.

They added: "But all is not lost! Our sister restaurant Italian Kitchen on Ingram Street is still up and running, and the food and service there are great!

"Marco will still be dotting around in the Italian Kitchen so go and convince him to put Penne Marco on the menu."

They provided no reason for the closure.

Shocked consumers reacted in the comments.

Lynsay Gillespie said: "So sad to hear this. We have been coming here for years and introduced our little boy to your restaurant when he was one and he will be gutted to hear this has happened as he always asks when are we going back to Viva as it's his favourite restaurant."

Fiona Wilson Forbes commented: "We can't believe it! We have been coming to viva for the past 15 years and have celebrated so many birthdays and occasions with you.

"The best staff ever and Marco so welcoming every time we have seen him. We will miss you so much, my husband and I just love your pollo sofia sauce and the last time we were in, our daughter was given a tub of the mozzarella sticks sauce as she loves it so much.

"We are so sorry that you are closing but will now visit your restaurant in Ingram Street. Thank you for so many memories."
