MORE than 350 new homes will be built in Glasgow after a developer has been given the go-ahead.
Plans for a "build to rent" development at a derelict site on Cathcart Road, near Crown Street Retail Park, have been granted by Glasgow City Council.
They will come fully furnished, with each tenant having the choice of a bespoke furniture package. Each apartment will come wired with full-fibre broadband and WIFI.
In a design statement, Craighead Properties said they "wish to provide a new model of housing for Glasgow and Scotland".
It added: "Craighead will let out all of the flats in its Cathcart Road development at what would be considered at less than full market rental level, however unlike some other below full market rental properties operated by Registered Social Landlords, Craighead does not require any public sector subsidy."
The vacant site has lain empty for 25 years. It was home to the former Dixons Iron Foundry and later a cash and carry outlet.
A total of 356 flats will be built with 167 parking spaces, and 50 apprentices will be employed during the construction period.
Central amenity spaces will be provided as well as quiet meeting areas and children’s play area.
