PARKING charges have come into effect at Glasgow’s Pollok Country Park today, ahead of the reopening of the Burrell Collection.

The parking charges were introduced by Glasgow City Council as visitor numbers are expected to rise as the Burrell Collection reopens after an extensive refurbishment.

Cars are now also banned from driving through the tree-lined avenue, which links the Burrell and Pollok House, in the hope it will offer a better experience for visitors.

Council bosses said motorists will still be able to park in the grounds in designated car parks, but are encouraging people to think about more sustainable modes of transport to make their journey to the park.

A free electric shuttle bus is also now available, linking key points inside the park.

Last week we reported on A Pollok Country Park community group social media post about the charges garnering strong reactions from locals and visitors.

How does the Pollok Park shuttle bus work?

A free shuttle bus has been made available for visitors to reach key points in the park from the Burrell Collection to Pollok House, operated by the National Trust for Scotland.

One of the stops for the free shuttle bus is located just inside the park close to the Pollokshaws Road entrance and continues in a loop throughout the park.

The shuttle bus operates Monday to Sunday between 9.30am and 6.30pm.
