A CAMPAIGN to raise awareness about suicide prevention has been launched in North Lanarkshire.
Vans that have been specially wrapped will be in the area over the coming months to promote mental wellbeing and raise awareness of a suicide prevention team.
The team who are driving the vans have been specially trained and are on hand to talk to anyone who sees them.
Paul Kelly, Depute Leader of North Lanarkshire Council explained: “The newly wrapped vans are a great way to get the message about suicide awareness into the heart of our communities. The vans are very bright, very visible and carry helpline support numbers for those who may be struggling.
“The emotional impact on families and friends bereaved by suicide is devastating and can have awful long-lasting effect on those left behind.
"If you’re worried about someone, a friend or a family member, asking them directly about their feelings can help to save their life.
The vans will feature the helpline numbers for Breathing Space, Samaritans and Hopeline UK which is aimed specifically at younger people, should they need to call one of the numbers for some support.
Paul added: “By taking the time to show you care and are there to listen, you could change their life.
“This new initiative will help us increase awareness about suicide prevention in our communities and will hopefully help people seek support if they need it.”
