A heartbroken mum has warned that covid must be taken more seriously in kids after her baby was left sobbing in agony.

Brittany Oat-Currie, 36, has called out a ‘fake rhetoric’ that she believes is spreading making people think coronavirus isn’t as dangerous for children.

It comes as she watches her own 15-month-old, Matheson, in 'misery' after catching the bug last week.

The tot, from the West End of Glasgow, has now been left with severe pain in his eyes, head, ears, throat, and chest.

It comes after he and Brittany tested positive on Sunday which also triggered an eye infection, bad cough, high fever, and loss of appetite.

His mother Brittany is hoping to raise awareness and is urging others to keep taking the virus seriously as things creep back to normal.

Brittany said: “Matheson just cries and cries in pain, it’s heartbreaking.

“He’s quite a good talker and when you ask him if he has ouchies he points to his eyes, head, ears, throat and chest.

“We know he’s in misery.

“I think that there’s this fake rhetoric being spread that kids don’t get sick from COVID or as sick.

“Two years ago it was definitely less prevalent in kids, but it’s not the case with these new variants.

“So many of my friends and family members have had really sick kids - kids that are perfectly healthy normally.

“Now I’ve experienced it first hand with Matheson.

“He’s had a 40 fever up until today that we’ve been keeping under control with paracetamol.

“He’s a really robust baby and typically kicks any cold or virus quickly - even his chicken pox were mild.

“I’m just so shocked he’s this sick.”

Glasgow Times: Brittany with partner Adam and baby MathesonBrittany with partner Adam and baby Matheson This is Brittany’s second time catching the deadly virus as she became ill when the pandemic first began in March 2020.

Despite being in the ‘best health of her life’ before catching covid it ‘knocked her down’ leaving her feeling very ill.

Now she is hoping to recover soon but is dreading battling the bug once again while also nursing her little boy.

She explained: “Being sick with it again is horrific. Feels the same as the last time despite being tripled vaccinated.

“Matheson is breastfed and had the vaccine via my milk. Despite all the antibodies he’s so unwell. I never imagined being healthy we’d get this sick with it again.

“But it’s been so tough because he’s relying on me for all his nutrition with breastmilk which is taking a toll on me. We’re all coughing badly.

“People need to be more conscious about public health as things open up. If you’re sick, stay home.”
