CONTROVERSIAL plans to turn a former care home into serviced apartments have been rejected.
Council bosses scrapped a planning bid that would see the building on Edinburgh Road in Carntyne house 58 bedrooms with each containing a bathroom, kitchen with washing machine and fridge, storage, TV and WiFi.
It was argued that the site did not have good access to public transport or "active travel" routes and would promote car use.

Planning chiefs also said that there were not enough services in the area to accommodate visitors such as cafes and shops and that the development would be out of character for somewhere that is largely residential.
Ann Jenkins, a local resident, is standing as a candidate for Labour in the forthcoming local election and was involved in the campaign against the development. She said: "Credit goes to the local residents who worked hard to get the planning permission turned down.
"I’m glad common sense prevailed and they hold proper consultation with the residents for any future plans. People power stopped the developers and the residents should all be proud of the effort they put in."

The Alexander Court care home occupied the site until 2018 when 6000 people signed a petition against the closure of the facility.
Owners of the site previously told the Glasgow Times that the building had been targetted by vandals.
Refused planning requests have the right to appeal within three months.
