A MUCH-ANTICIPATED play starring James McAvoy has opened in Glasgow.
The Olivier Award-winning production of Cyrano de Bergerac had its opening night at the Theatre Royal on Friday, March 18.
Glasgow is one of only three cities in the world that will host the production, alongside London and New York, that has been adapted by Martin Shrimp and is directed by Jamie Lloyd.
Returning to his hometown, James McAvoy stars in the title role of Cyrano, who is "fierce with a pen and notorious in combat".
McAvoy is joined by a world-class cast in an electrifying ensemble performance that celebrates linguistic creativity and the power of human connection.
James Haworth, theatre director at Theatre Royal, said: "Welcoming James McAvoy home to perform at Theatre Royal is an honour.
"This is undoubtedly among one of the most exciting and prestigious productions to have been staged at Theatre Royal."
General sale tickets for the performance went on sale in November 2021 and sold out in record time.
A second batch of tickets for under 30s, key workers and those receiving government benefits went on sale at the beginning of March and sold out in less than an hour.
Cyrano de Bergerac will run at the Theatre Royal until Saturday, March 26.
