A RACIST entered a Subway sandwich store and made vile remarks towards staff in an unprovoked verbal attack.
Mark Voghouey, 33, walked into the shop at Cowgate, Kirkintilloch, on November 16 last year and shouted racist comments.
He was charged with behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and appeared from custody in Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing.
Fiscal depute Ross Harris said: “Four employees were carrying out duties at the time. When the accused entered, he was asked what he would like.
“He began repeatedly to shout ‘Allahu Akbar, f**k the Muslims, f**k the p***s’.
“He left then returned a short time later shouting ‘f**k the Muslims, f**k the p***s, this is my f*****g country, f**k the IRA’.
“Members of the public tried to calm him down. Police attended and the accused was placed within a marked cell van and began to shout ‘Allahu Akbar’.
“He was taken to Coatbridge police office. During the journey, he was shouting ‘f**k the Jews, f**k the IRA, Allahu Akbar’.
In another incident on January 28 this year, Voghouey was on Glasgow’s Great Western Road, near Byres Road, when he began shouting abuse in the street.
Mr Harris said: “A witness could hear him shouting and swearing. He approached her and began to shout at her.
“He stated ‘ya f*****g a******e, ya f*****g w****r, square go me ya p**i b*****d’.
“He pulled out two glass bottles from his waistband and smashed them in her presence but not directed at her.
“Police were contacted by another witness and the accused walked away. A short time later, officers observed a man entering Subway on Byres Road, which perfectly matched the description they were looking for.
“He was highly intoxicated. He stated to police ‘I was annoyed so I was shouting ya f*****g a*******s’. They asked him to step outside the store.
“He was informed he was under arrest and taken to Helen Street police office. He was interviewed and engaged in conversation with officers.
“He said ‘I left the pub, and someone stole my money. I wasn’t racist. As I said to your colleague, I did smash the glasses after I was shouting’.
Voghouey also assaulted his dad whilst he was at his work in another incident on May 9, 2017.
He attended Persepolis takeaway on Battlefield Road and demanded money from him.
The prosecutor said: “His father refused to give him money then he struck him to his face. The witness left and contacted police to make them aware.
“A short time later police arrived and met with the witness. He stated his son was still within the shop.
"They obtained details from the witness and advised him to attend Cathcart police office. Extra officers were requested to detain the accused. They traced him within the kitchen area. He became extremely uncooperative and refused to leave.
“He was conveyed to Govan police office and began shouting loudly ‘f*****g Scottish p**i b******s. I’m going to get a £5 flight to Afghanistan’.
“He continued his erratic behaviour throughout the journey.”
His lawyer said: “His parents are engaged but they don’t have him in the house due to previous incidents, but they are concerned about him.
“He’s been remanded since January 31 so you may have been considering imposing a backdated sentence. He has one other matter outstanding and it’s going to trial in April.”
Sheriff Shona Gilroy imposed a structured deferred sentence to keep an eye on Voghouey.
He was also sentenced to three months in prison, backdated.
The sheriff told him: “Come back in three months’ time. No more trouble with the police, no more trouble full stop. Work with the social workers to solve your issues and attitude problem.”
He will return to court in June.
