A MAN'S body has been found in Port Glasgow - with police treating his death as 'unexplained'.
The grim discovery was made in the early hours of this morning, reports our sister title The Greenock Telegraph.
Emergency services were called to the scene in a lane between Lilybank Road and Glenburn Road just before 1am.
Police say they attended following a report of a man being injured, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Inspector Nicola Wake, of Greenock CID, said: “Officers received report of a man having been found injured in the lane between Lilybank Road and Glenburn Street in Port Glasgow around 12.40am.
“Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
Police sealed off roads in a residential area of Port Glasgow as their probe got under way.
Uniformed officers blocked Lilybank Road at Glenpark Drive by the bridge and were standing guard at the scene, with no traffic allowed through.
The situation affected access to nearby St John's Primary School.
The school said: "Due to an ongoing police incident, access to the school building is limited.
"Lilybank Road, the bridge, the hill at the Glen and the underpass are all closed.
"Please find alternative routes to the school and take care."
Anyone with information is urged to contact Greenock CID on 101, quoting incident number 0095 of May 6, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
