A "SMALL number" of reports have been passed to police regarding cars in Glasgow having their tyres deflated.

We previously reported that "The Deflationists" claimed to have targeted around 50 SUVs or 4x4s in Newlands and Shawlands last night.

Police have described the act as "reckless and dangerous".

The new group say a campaign in the city has been stepped up to make it "impossible to own a gas-guzzling SUV".

Drivers may have woke this morning to discover a spoof parking notice on the windshield of their 4x4, informing them that their "luxury lifestyle choice" has been "disarmed".

Police Scotland has since revealed they have received reports of the "reckless act", and drivers are being urged to check their vehicles before driving.

Superintendent Ross Allan said: “We have received reports of vehicle tyres being deliberately deflated in the Glasgow area. This is a reckless and potentially dangerous act which could put drivers and other road users at risk.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we would encourage members of the public to call us immediately if they see anyone acting suspiciously close to parked vehicles.

“I would also urge all drivers to check their vehicle before setting off and to contact the police on 101 should they suspect their vehicle has been tampered with.”

The news comes after "The Tyre Extinguishers" revealed they have targeted more than 4,000 vehicles around the world.

Around 210 vehicles in Edinburgh had their tyres deflated recently.

The group say they are doing this because: "SUVs and 4x4s are a disaster for our health, our public safety and our climate.

"Bigger and bigger cars are dominating our towns and cities, and all so a privileged few can flaunt their wealth. Because governments and politicians have failed to protect us from this danger, we must protect ourselves."
