Almost 50 accessible homes for older people are to be built in the West End of Glasgow after the council agreed to dispose of a disused former hostel.
Queen Cross Housing Association will demolish the four-storey hostel and build the new homes for social rent on the site parallel to Great Western Road.
The development will provide 31 one-bedroom and 17 two-bedroom flats over six floors.

Four of the ground-floor flats have been designed for wheelchair users.
There are lifts in both closes serving the upper floors.
It has been identified there is a need for more accessible homes for older people with the housing association finding 40% of people in the area will be over 50 by 2031 but only 12% of its stock is classed as accessible.
Kenny McLean, Glasgow City Council convener for housing, said: “The proposed development at the site would help to meet an identified and emerging need for such housing in this part of the city.
“We have worked with housing associations all across Glasgow to help build homes that improved the quality of life for their residents, and we look forward to a partnership with Queen’s Cross Housing Association to bring an innovative model of housing that will do the same for the people living there.”
