A MAN was jailed for 13 months for a string of violent offences including battering his own mother.

Jamie Thompson attacked his mum in one incident, punched a shop worker in another and hurled racist abuse at a staff member in a third.

Depute fiscal Brogan Moffat told Glasgow Sheriff Court last week of an offence around 8pm on May 21, 2022.

Thompson was at home with his mother when he kicked off, shouting and swearing at her.

She asked her son to leave but he refused so she activated a panic alarm, which summoned cops.

The 33-year-old, who was drunk, began repeatedly punching his mum and struck her to the head before pushing her to the ground.

When she was on the ground he then dragged her across the floor.

She managed to flee and was outside in the street in a distressed state.

When police arrived, Thompson, of Parkhead, told them: "F**k off, I'm not talking to you c**ts."

He was taken to London Road police station.

In a separate incident, just after 5pm on June 26 last year, Thompson entered JD Sports in Glasgow city centre.

A staff member stopped him and tried to usher him out but he fell over.

Thompson then got up and started punching the worker to the face.

Other staff helped detain him in a room until the cops arrived.

A third incident saw Thompson hurl racist abuse at a shop worker.

At 2.55pm on August 14 last year, he entered a corner store and started going around the shop picking up items before changing his mind.

A worker asked if he needed any help then asked him to leave.

Thompson became enraged and started calling the man a "P**i" and a "black b*****d".

He then went outside and barricaded the shop door to stop other customers going in before slamming the door repeatedly and hard enough that a glass panel shattered in several places.

Cops arrived and took him to London Road police station.

Thompson's defence brief told the court he is "deeply ashamed of his conduct and how he treated his mother".

He was already on a structured deferred sentence when the incident happened.

The lawyer said: "In these other matters, they were incidents involving alcohol.

"He was given an opportunity by the court which he has not taken."

Sheriff Allan Findlay handed down a 10-month prison sentence and a three-month sentence to be carried out consecutively.
