IT is 20 years since lovable old rogues Jack and Victor first appeared in their very own show, Still Game.
The characters, created and played by Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, first saw the light of day in sketch show Chewin’ The Fat.
The Glaswegian pensioners struck a chord with the Scottish viewing public, and after its debut on September 6, 2002, a further 62 episodes aired until the show wound up in 2019.
The show made stars of its ensemble cast, including Jane McCarry as Isa, Paul Riley as Winston, Mark Cox as Tam, Sanjeev Kohli as Navid and Gavin Mitchell Boaby the barman.
In the very first episode, Jack is feeling miserable thanks to his anti-social neighbours but he cannot move until the man living across the landing from his best friend Victor dies. Meanwhile, Jack and Victor's friend Winston is teaching his grandson how to fight for an upcoming boxing match.
Nathan Gallagher, who runs the Still Game Fan Group on Facebook, polled his group members for their favourite episodes, which are being screened on Tuesday evening at the Grosvenor cinema in Glasgow’s west end.
The screening is being supported by Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill under their Jack and Victor spirits company and 50 free tickets (each admitting the winner and a friend) were up for grabs through the fan group and Jack and Victor’s own channels.
The night will also include some Still Game-themed treats for guests like Beefy Bake nachos and hot dogs and a Melonade slushy with Midouri….
The six episodes voted fan favourites include Hyperdales, from series six, in which Navid the shopkeeper cracks under pressure from a new corporate supermarket and tries to burn the place down; Cairds, from series three, in which Jack and Victor try to win back Joe's electric scooter from Tam who won it in a poker game; and Fresh Lick, from series five, in which Jack and Victor try to redesign Isa's flat.
