Liz Truss said she wants to make Britain an “aspiration nation” as she made her first speech as Prime Minister.
She set out her three priorities as she takes over from Boris Johnson.
The economy, energy and the NHS were her three top issues she said.
She promised tax cuts and a plan to “get Britain working”.

Truss said, in a short statement outside Ten Downing Street, “I’m determined to deliver”.
She made a round trip from London to Balmoral where she was invited by the Queen to form a government.
Boris Johnson had earlier met the Queen to resign.

She said: “We face severe global headwinds” including Russian aggression and the aftermath of covid.
She said under her government Britain would build roads, homes and broadband faster.
Truss said: “We need to reduce the burden on families and help people get on in life.”
The Prime Minister said: “It won’t be easy but we can do it.”

She added: “ I will transform Britain into an aspiration nation. I will take action this day and every day to make it happen.”
Speaking in front of an assembled crowd of Conservative MPs she mentioned Russia, directly and indirectly, more than once in her short address blaming the energy price crisis on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the resultant war.
She said Britain would “stand up for freedom and democracy around the world” adding “we can’t have security at home if we don’t have it abroad.”
Truss said she would deal “hands on” with the energy crisis she said was “caused by Putin’s war” and pledged action to help with bills this week.
Ans in praising her predecessor, she said Boris Johnson delivered Brexit, the covid vaccine and stood up to Russian aggression.”
“History,” she said: “ will see him as a hugely consequential Prime Minister”.
After becoming the fourth Conservative Prime Minister in six years, she said she would “put our nation on the path to long-term success”.
Adding: “As strong as the storm may be, the British people are stronger.
“Together we can ride out the storm. This is our vital mission to ensure prosperity.
“I’m determined to deliver”.
The new Prime Minister will now start to assemble her cabinet, with key jobs expected for her supporters during the leadership campaign.
It is expected Kwasi Kwarteng will become Chancellor replacing Nadhim Zahawi who was appointed by Boris Johnson days before he was forced to resign.
She also needs a new Home Secretary after Priti Patel said she would be standing down.
