A GOVANHILL gap site could be brought back into use after lying derelict for 20 years thanks to new housing plans.

Mast Architects is heading up a design team behind a social housing project in the Southside community that could see 12 flats built for rent.

A planning application has been submitted to Glasgow City Council for the brownfield site at 17 South Annandale Street.

It shows designs for a tenement-style block of flats that will sit between garages and a block of tenements.

Local councillor Soryia Siddique said: "There is demand for social housing, including family homes, in Southside Central.

"It is important community views are taken on board, flats are meeting required energy efficiency standards and generating renewable energy, thus ensuring net zero targets are being met and decreasing the burden of energy costs."

Morris and Spottiswood are pursuing the social housing project on the 0.89-hectare yard.
