Partick Thistle players pitch in to Jags For Good as Fred Macaulay plays gig

As announced in the Glasgow Times earlier this week, Jags For Good has set up an energy fund to raise cash to support the local community.

Now Partick Thistle players have donated to the cause - and Fred Macaulay has agreed to play a charity night at The Stand Comedy Club.

Rachel Donaldson, player at Partick Thistle Women’s FC, said: "As a squad we’re proud to support the Jags For Good energy fund.

"Combining our playing commitments with full-time jobs, some of our squad see first hand, through their jobs, the struggles that is being placed on day to day life for people within our community.

"Our squad donation will play a small part in helping people through a difficult winter and offering a helping hand where it is needed the most."

Ross Docherty, Partick Thistle FC captain, said: "It’s another fantastic initiative from Jags For Good and it’s great to see Thistle fans coming together again to help vulnerable people in our local community.

"Unfortunately, this winter is going to be tough for a lot of people and the work done by Jags For Good to fundraise for energy top ups for Glasgow North West Foodbank will provide a vital support to people within Maryhill and the North West of Glasgow.

"The full first team men’s squad are proud to get involved and do our small part in this worthy cause.

"Since Jags for Good launched, we have seen the generosity of the Thistle support in spades and we are proud to be a part of that."

All funds raised will be used by Glasgow North West Foodbank to provide energy top-ups to people on prepaid meters who are being pulled into poverty.

A donation of £500, provided jointly by players of Partick Thistle FC and Partick Thistle Women’s FC, will help people in low-income households in Maryhill and surrounding areas to heat their homes this winter.

This donation takes the total raised by the Jags for Good Energy Fund to almost £4000 since its launch on Tuesday, surpassing the original target of £3000 within less than 24 hours.

In a further boost to the fundraising drive, it has been announced that an afternoon of stand-up comedy will take place in the coming weeks to support the initiative.

Hosted by Thistle-supporting comedian Ray Bradshaw, the show will be held at The Stand Comedy Club on Sunday, October 9, with all proceeds going to the Jags for Good Energy Fund.

Joining Ray will be Fred Macaulay, as well as a range of high-profile comedians that will soon be announced.

Ray said: "I’m really happy to organise a gig with some of the best comedians in the country to add some money to the total for such a great cause and to top up the incredible work done by Jags for Good”.

Jonny Brown, one of the fans involved in Jags for Good, added: "We have been blown away by the response to the Jags for Good energy fund.

"It shows not only the compassion of football fans, but their recognition of how difficult a time it is for people dealing with the cost-of-living crisis.

"We would like to thank everyone who has donated and offered their support so far, including the players from the men’s and women’s teams, Ray Bradshaw and the Stand Comedy Club.”
