THE people of Glasgow have paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth.

It was confirmed this evening that Britain’s longest-reigning monarch passed away peacefully in Balmoral, aged 96. 

Charities, organisations and residents from across Glasgow have paid their respects following the news. 

Glasgow singer Michaela Foster Marsh who sang for the Queen just last month has said it will be a memory which will live in her heart forever.

"I am absolutely heartbroken as many in this country are right now," Michaela said. "I was so honoured, humbled and privileged to have met my beautiful Queen and sing for her, especially so recently and perform such a pertinent song by Bethany Bisaillion.

"I knew she was unwell and it was emotional but it is a memory that will stay in my heart forever. Rest in peace, my beloved Majesty. Your reign will never be forgotten.  Your dignity was supreme to the end."
