A SERVICE of preparation for Queen Elizabeth's funeral will be held in Glasgow. 

Taking place at Glasgow Cathedral on Sunday at 7pm, anyone is welcome to attend the service of prayer and reflection of the monarch's "extraordinary life".

The service will be led by Rev Mark E. Johnstone.

Glasgow's depute lord provost, councillor Christy Mearns will attend.

A statement on Glasgow Cathedral's website read: "We have been advised that, according to protocol, no church will hold an official Service of Remembrance nor Thanksgiving for the life of Her Majesty, until some time following the funeral service in Westminster Abbey on September 19. 

"We will advise you here when such a service will take place in Glasgow Cathedral." 

It went on to say that some churches have decided to provide a live public screening of the funeral service on Monday, but unfortunately, the cathedral does not have the facilities to do so.

Meanwhile, access to the city’s Book of Condolence for Queen Elizabeth, held in the City Chambers, will end at 5pm on Sunday. 

They will be kept in the custody of the city.

Glasgow’s Lord Provost Jaqueline McLaren will travel to Westminster Abbey for the funeral service to pay her respects as an invited Lord Lieutenant.
