Is your school the best in the city?

Glasgow’s nursery, primary, secondary and ASL schools are proud of the part they play in their communities.

We want to hear your nominations for the pupils and teachers who go the extra mile.

The Glasgow Community Champion Awards, supported by Glasgow City Council, Wheatley Homes Glasgow and Trades House Glasgow, have a special category dedicated to schools which support their neighbourhoods.

Glasgow Times:

It could be through litter-picking or intergenerational clubs, community gardening or carol-singing at Christmas - whatever the reason, we want to know all about the schools making a difference in their corner of the city.

Last year’s winners were the six schools who worked together to create an allotment in Easterhouse - Fare Play Nursery, St Clare’s Day Nursery, Lochview Nursery, Oakwood Primary, St Benedict’s Primary and Lochend Community High - and a special commendation went to St Paul’s Primary in Shettleston, for its inspirational Plot To Plate Project.

We know there are more great schools out there. Tell us about them before the closing date of September 28 and they could be in the running for an award.

In addition to the Best School Award, there will be a further eight trophies - Team Award, Individual Award, Public Service Award, Uniformed Services Award, Senior Award, Young Award, Health and Wellbeing Award and Sports Award - up for grabs and a public vote will decide regional winners in three areas of the city - he North East, the North West and the South.

Glasgow Times:

Last year’s winners included PEEK (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid) who triumphed in the Team Award category. PEEK provided food, activity and wellbeing packs and online play, art and cooking sessions to families struggling to cope during the pandemic.

Heather Bryson won the Individual Award for her incredible fundraising efforts and support of people with dementia during lockdown and the Uniformed Services Award went to Glasgow’s Quit Your Way teams, which offer week to week support to those who find it hardest to stop smoking.

Who do you think deserves recognition for fantastic community work?

You can nominate anyone, from the hardworking coach of young person’s sports team to a nurse who goes above and beyond the day job; from an inspirational teenager making waves at school to a pensioner who campaigns for better services.
