IT has played host to a galaxy of stars – but who is the best band you have ever seen at the Barrowland?

The east end venue has a history stretching all the way back to the days of big bands and ballroom dancing.

Opening in 1934, thanks to vision of “Barras Queen” Maggie McIver, the building was largely destroyed by fire in 1958.

The new ballroom opened on Christmas Eve, 1960 and since then, has become one of Scotland’s foremost concert venues.

Simple Minds filmed the video for their 1983 hit single, “Waterfront” at the Barrowland, and the list of acts to perform there includes David  Bowie, Biffy Clyro, Oasis, U2, The Stranglers, The Clash, The Smiths, Big Country, Muse, Foo Fighters, Franz Ferdinand, Texas, and Scissor Sisters.

Adjacent to the Ballroom is the Barrowland Park where a newly created pathway features the names of many artists who have played at the venue over the decades.

It has also hosted record and comic fairs, tea dances and corporate events alongside some of the most memorable pop and rock gigs of recent times.
