SCOTTISH singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has surprised listeners with his cover of Britney Spears at BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.
The pop singer, who recently returned to the UK charts with his hit new single Forget Me, did a cover of Britney’s 2003 song Everytime.
The Live Lounge act, which took place in The Hammersmith Club, welcomed Capaldi back for the first time since 2019.
Capaldi, when told his song choice was unexpected, said: “Thank you, they call me the human curveball.
“I was in the bath one day, in the nude, as she is in the video, and I just thought about Britney Spears.
“I regret saying that now," he jokingly added.
The song, which formed part of a 26-minute set, is the singer’s second cover in less than two weeks after his performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s smash hit Drivers Licence.
After launching Forget Me in Glasgow with an unannounced appearance on Buchanan Street, Capaldi is off to the US to promote his new single.
Forget Me has amassed almost 25 million plays on Spotify alone in just 2 and half weeks since its release.
