DO YOU remember…when Michael Jackson played Glasgow Green?

It was August 14, 1992 – 30 years ago this year, and the crowds were like nothing the city had ever seen before.

More than 35,000 people turned out to welcome the King of Pop on his Dangerous Tour, and there were so many noise complaints the council said he would not be welcomed back.

In our sister newspaper, The Herald, the reviewer said Michael wanted to be the “biggest, most strange, most distant and yet most accessible superstar in history. So, he enters (from who knows where -- there are lots of traps in that stage) in a shower of sparks and freezes.

“Nothing happens for a very long time. Then he turns. Uproar. Nothing happens. He takes off his shades. Freak out.”

The show was full of dance routines (including Thriller and Billie Jean) and giant screens helped those at the back get a decent view.

And the set list included all the hits – from Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' and Smooth Criminal to She's Out of My Life, Man in the Mirror and Beat It.

At the end, he appeared to leave the stage on a rocket jetpack, but the Herald was not convinced. “The man is priceless, they could never afford the insurance,” said the reporter.
