A man who went years without a haircut has donated his locks to celebrate his dad beating cancer.

Tony Magunnigle who loved his long hair has now cut around 10 inches off for the Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer.

Glasgow Times:

The 26-year-old, from Larkhall, had grown his beloved hair for three years but made the selfless decision to chop it after his father, Antony Magunnigle, had a ‘big scare’.

It comes after a simple hernia scan revealed the 62-year-old had kidney cancer in August last year.

The devastating news left his family fearing the worst but now after having his kidney removed Antony is cancer free.

Glasgow Times:

Tony told the Glasgow Times: “I could greet, I really liked the long hair but I came up with the idea as I know a lot of people would donate to have me cut it.

"It felt terrible cutting it but it's amazing that it would help at the Little Princess Trust with a wig.

"My dad had cancer so I decided to cut it for cancer research.

“It was a big scare because both my gran and papa died from it.

“He was actually quite lucky because he went in for a random scan and they noticed it, he got his kidney out two weeks later.

“He has since had two scans, with the most recent being last month, and has been given the all clear with it not spreading anywhere else.

"My dad is now cancer free.”

Glasgow Times:

Kidney cancer, also called renal cancer, is one of the most common types of cancer in the UK.

It usually affects adults in their 60s or 70s. It is rare in people under 50, according to the NHS.

In many cases, there are no obvious symptoms at first and kidney cancer may only be found during tests for another condition or reason.

Symptoms can include blood in urine, darker urine than usual, persistent pain in your lower back or side, just below your ribs, or a lump or swelling in your side.

Now Tony has set up a GoFundMe to help him raise money for the Little Princess Trust.

He was blown away after smashing his initial target of £100 and raised more than £500 for the cause.

The fundraiser reads: “As some of you may have noticed I have been growing my hair out over the past few years but I have now decided to cut it off and donate my hair to the little princess trust, along with this I am also raising money to donate to cancer research.

“I understand times are tough but any donation helps and every penny is truly appreciated.

“I'm raising money in aid of Cancer Research UK and every donation will help.

“Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
