PETER MCKENNA is preparing for the season ahead at The Gannet in Finnieston - and Primal Scream singer Bobby Gillespie is invited.
The head chef was in London recently to celebrate his wife’s birthday and found himself at Andipa Art gallery for the debut show of The Pogues singer Shane MacGowan.
I edited the Irish songwriter’s first art folio book which was introduced at the event so I was there too, alongside Paisley-born punk fashion designer Pam Hogg, Kate Moss, Bob Geldof and rising stars Fontaines D.C., who coincidentally had dinner at The Gannet after one of their gigs at the Barrowland Ballroom.
They bought a Shane MacGowan sketch of Bono whilst in the gallery while Kate Moss left with an artwork depicting Grace Jones.
On the night, MacGowan’s friend Bobby Gillespie arrived and Peter took the opportunity to invite him to visit The Gannet the next time he was back home in Glasgow.
“I said to Bobby, you’ve given me years of great music and amazing gigs, I’d like to provide you an evening of fantastic food. I’ve been going to see Primal Scream since the mid-nineties, I was there at Queen’s Park for the Screamadelica tour. I’m a big fan. He’s welcome anytime,” said Peter.
There’s game on Peter’s menu at the moment.
Peter continued: “We have deer and we are going for deep flavours with that, black garlic and fried shallots. On our lunch menu we have partridge. As the season rolls along it gets more intense, we add a level of spice and rich flavour. I’ve also been getting these beautiful, massive hand dived scallops in from Jura and creel caught langoustines.”
The festive seasons bring regular diners back to the restaurant to gather with friends and family.
Peter added: “There will be nods to Christmas flavours on the menu but we want people to come in and forget about what’s going on outside for a couple of hours, have a nice drink, experience the menu and let us look after you.”
