A HOMELESSNESS charity will be opening the doors to its centre through the night for four months this winter.

Glasgow City Mission, which is committed to tackling rough sleeping, has been running winter projects for the last 12 years, with the aim of making sure no one needs to sleep outside.

Each year, dedicated members have looked at the issue afresh and adapted to the needs of their guests and the landscape in Glasgow.

This year, their Crimea Street day-centre in the city centre, will be open through the night, every night, from December 1 to March 31 – with trained staff operating a safe and welcome space.

Glasgow Times:

Dinner will be served from 6.30pm to 8pm, and then the ‘overnight welcome centre team’ will be on site.

Anyone who finds themselves in a crisis can go or be referred by partners.

The charity will be working closely with the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership’s out-of-hours service to access emergency accommodation.

Previously, they were confined to one location in the city to accommodate guests.

Now using Crimea Street as a base, the charity will be able to access an array of temporary accommodations across the city.

They are also doubling their housing settlement officer team, who will follow up with guests who have accessed the service the night before and develop a person-centred move-on plan for each individual.

Glasgow City Mission says they are delighted again to be working in partnership with more than 20 other agencies in order to access expertise and specialist support this winter and passed on their thanks to Aspire, Blue Triangle Housing Association, British Red Cross, Citizens Rights Project, HSCP, Glasgow Street Pastors, Govan Community Project, Govan Law Centre, Healing For The Heart, Housing First Consortium (Glasgow), Hunter Street Homeless Services, Lodging House Mission, Marie Trust, Police Scotland, Safe in Scotland, Salvas, Scottish Drugs Forum, Scottish Ambulance Service, Scottish Refugee Council, Shelter Scotland, Simon Community Scotland, Social Bite and Turning Point Scotland.
