Steven Gerrard left Rangers under somewhat of a cloud for Aston Villa last year.
Thousands of Gers fans were angry when the Liverpool legend departed their club midway through the 2021/22 season for the lights of the Premier League.
He was certainly fondly regarded prior to that move, having ended Celtic's ten-in-a-row bid and also managing to get Rangers competing well in Europe again.
However, despite any lingering ill-feeling towards him from the Gers faithful, Pat Nevin reckons re-appointing Gerrard as Rangers manager wouldn't be a bad idea.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst's future remains up in the air as things stand.
Should he be removed from his position by the Ibrox board, Nevin says Gerrard may end up back on familiar territory.
He told Grosvenor Sport: "I'd be surprised if Steven Gerrard was the go-to option and I know he's not been forgiven by a vast number of Rangers fans. His legacy has been rewritten slightly but in reality, I think he's a good manager.
"Gerrard isn't the go-to or the obvious replacement but I don't think it'd be a daft decision for Rangers to make.
"If things don't work with Giovanni van Bronckhorst, re-hiring Steven Gerrard wouldn't be a bad thing to do at all."
With Rangers nine points behind Celtic, even at this stage of the season, many consider the title race to be over.
Nevin doesn't quite believe that's the case yet.
However, should Ange Postecoglou's men beat Rangers in the next derby match on January 2, then it will be curtains then according to Nevin.
He added: "Rangers' title chances are fading massively into the distance. Rangers and Celtic play each other in early January at Ibrox and I think by that point in time you're thinking that if Rangers don't win then they can say goodbye to the title.
"Their claws are still in there but they're hanging on by the tips of those claws."
