A Glasgow charity is urging people to help them raise funds for the most vulnerable this Christmas.
The Glasgow Care Foundation aims to alleviate poverty in Glasgow and is doubling its ¬efforts to raise funds with a festive campaign.
The ‘a small donation, a big smile this Christmas’ campaign wishes to raise funds to buy vouchers to give to families in Glasgow to put towards gifts or Christmas dinners.
Last year, the campaign raised £10k with vouchers of £50 presented to families in need.
This year the charity hopes to raise a minimum of £20k as more families struggle to cope with cost pressures, doubling their efforts so they can give households £100.
Elaine Sergeant, fundraising and marketing manager of Glasgow Care Foundation, said: “As a charity, we have become increasingly concerned about the crisis people will face this Christmas because of fuel poverty and the choice between heating or eating.
“This year, we hope to put back some of the magic in Christmas with gift cards to purchase toys from Santa’s list or food for Christmas dinner – giving people the dignity of choice.”
The Glasgow Care Foundation is also encouraging supermarkets to get involved.
George Clark, a trustee of the charity, said: “Any retailers that would like to donate gift cards or even match what we spend, we would love to hear from you.
“We guarantee that every penny will be gratefully received.”
