A Glasgow company has left hundreds of people unemployed just weeks before Christmas.

Go-Centric, based on Renfield Street, let staff go on Thursday just hours after it is believed a refinancing deal fell through.

It is understood around 600 roles are affected.

The firm - a 'business process outsourcer' - worked throughout the pandemic to organise vaccination appointments.

Now workers have been left shocked after the company sent out a notice confirming it would stop trading 'immediately'.

They now face redundancy three weeks before Christmas during the cost-of-living crisis.

Glasgow Times:

So far bosses claim more than 250 jobs have now been “safeguarded” as their priority is “focusing on supporting every worker”.

Mental health advice is also being offered and November wages will be paid in full, according to bosses.

Staff spoke to the Glasgow Times after suddenly losing their jobs with some finding out on social media that they were unemployed.

One person said: “What the company has done to everybody is shocking. I was loyal to them for a long time.

“I've heard these things happening before but this is just crazy. I actually found out I lost my job on Facebook.

“There are single parents feeding themselves hand to mouth that have just lost their jobs suddenly three weeks before Christmas.

“It's also a five-week wait for Universal Credit. You might get an advance but it would be two weeks before you even get that.

“I think the company knew what was coming and what was happening, but they did nothing.

“A poor girl I work with is going to lose her visa and a lot of people have children to feed.”

A second person said: “We had a team meeting yesterday and were told then that Go-Centric had ceased business effectively immediately.”

A spokesperson for Go-Centric said: “With deep sadness, Go-Centric has ceased trading with immediate effect and our full focus now is to support every worker.

“We are in discussions with our customers to save as many jobs as possible, with more than 250 safeguarded so far and conversations are continuing over the weekend.

“We have put in place several support measures for our colleagues at this very difficult time, including recruitment and mental health advice.

“Our colleagues have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and beyond, and we are incredibly proud of their frontline service.

“This is dreadfully sad news for everyone involved in Go-Centric and our priority in the days ahead is to support our amazing people.”

CCA Recruitment Group is now working to help fill around 500 roles to keep workers employed.

A spokesperson said: "We are a recruitment business and have partnered with Go-Centric over the past two years and we are saddened to hear the news.

"CCA Recruitment will endeavor to support candidates and find other suitable roles across the UK."
