A Glasgow charity that supports the city’s older generation has been given a major cash boost.

Glasgow’s Golden Generation (GGG), which has been supporting older adults for almost 75 years, was awarded £65,000 by the National Lottery Community Fund.

The funding boost, which comes amidst the worsening cost of living crisis, was praised by the charity as many of its service users ‘are vulnerable and live with disabilities' and ‘are most affected by the crisis’.

The charity, who have made it to the grand final of our Community Champions, runs three-day centres across Glasgow with the Fred Paton Day Centre in the West End, Mattie Carwood Day Centre in the East End, and David Cargill Day Centre in the Southside.

All three centres will benefit from the £65K, which will help them to support their communities over the course of a year.

Richard Donald, CEO of Glasgow’s Golden Generation, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for their donation of 65k.

“Our three-day care centres across the city provide the foundations of the charity and ensure older adults can access the support they need.

“Every day we have places for up to 100 older adults to attend our centres and this funding will help us keep our doors open over the tough year ahead.

”Everyone is impacted by the current cost of living crisis, but data shows that people with disabilities are more affected.

“Most of our service users live with disabilities whether it be mobility-related, dementia or age-related so this funding will help support the most vulnerable in our communities.”

The charity day centres provide a number of projects that aim to reduce isolation and loneliness in older adults.
