A SLIGHTLY tipsy Santa does his best to hail a Subway train ….fog adds an eerie haze to George Square….a candle is lit for the vicitims of Glasgow’s bin lorry crash…
These stunning images by Glasgow photographer Brian Anderson capture some unusual, quirky and moving festive moments in the city, from the 90s and Noughties.
Brian is well-known for his celebrity pictures, his portraits of notorious crime figures, and his candid shots of Glasgow people and places.
Described as being in the same “exalted company” as legendary photographers Henri Cartier-Bresson and Oscar Marzaroli, Brian has been documenting his native city for 35 years.
“The time’s right for a retrospective exhibition and a book,” he says.

“They are both in the planning stages, so hopefully they will be out next year.”
Brian allowed the Glasgow Times an exclusive look at some of his favourite festive pictures, including a shot of Scottish actor Rikki Fulton on the set of Scotch and Wry in the 1990s, and an image of a New Year reveller taking a cigarette break outside Club Noir.
There are funny moments – the aforementioned worse-for-wear Father Christmas in the Undergound station, for example – and some poignant ones too.
At the Tron Church, a Salvation Army officer lights a candle for the victims of the 2014 bin lorry crash, which killed six people.
An aerial view of George Square is a reminder of what the place looked like in 2016, while the City Chambers looks decidedly mysterious as fog descends on the city centre in 2013.
Brian has also recently made a documentary, Kick Out the Jams: The Story of XFM, about the celebrated radio station. View the trailer on YouTube here.
