A MAN told cops they would get shot and firebombed if they returned to Castlemilk.

Billy McGregor, 26, was spotted staggering on Oaktree Gardens in the early hours of August 27, 2022.

Cops believed he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and stopped him to ensure his safety.

A police check showed that McGregor had live bail conditions not to enter the street and he was informed he was under arrest.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, prosecutor Jennifer Sillars said: “Police applied handcuffs to the accused and whilst walking him to the vehicle, the accused lowered his leg and then wrapped his leg around police witness Sweeney’s leg in an attempt to make the officer lose his footing.

“Officers called for a cell van to attend. The accused shouted towards them ‘f**k you, if you return to Castlemilk you’re going to get firebombed. If you return here, you will get shot’.”

McGregor was taken to Helen Street police office.

Due to his drunken state, he was not formally cautioned and charged.

McGregor’s lawyer said: “On this particular night, he had been drinking and confronted by a group of men.

“He can’t remember the comments he made to the police but he accepts responsibility. Nevertheless, he now faces court again.

“He has worked pretty much all of his adult life and is currently working."

The defence solicitor revealed that his client’s bail order was a result of a breach of the peace in regard to his mum.

He added: “When he pleaded not guilty to the offence, bail conditions resulted in him moving to his grandmother’s address. He now has his own tenancy in Castlemilk.”

Sheriff Amel Elfallah told McGregor: “The offences you have pleaded guilty to are serious ones. You threatened police in a serious nature, and you did this whilst you were on bail.

“I have taken into account your outstanding matter which post days this offence. You have a limited record, and you are in full-time employment.

"In the circumstances, I’m prepared to deal with this matter by a court order.”

He was ordered to carry out 75 hours of unpaid work.
