A MUM blacked out the moment she completed a brutal ice swim which was the “hardest thing” she has ever done.

Trisha Harvey, who lives in Thorntonhall, has no memory of the moment she finished her Ice Mile which saw her cover 1650m in four-degree water.

The 63-year-old beat the challenge which involved pushing herself to the limit in brutal conditions wearing just a standard swimsuit, goggles, and one hat.

The athlete said her body went into “autopilot” and couldn’t believe it when she came around 30 minutes later, out of the water, and asked “have I really done it?”

She was inspired to take on the swim to prove “you’re never too old” to reach your goals and is now thrilled with her accomplishment.

Trisha told the Glasgow Times: “It was the hardest thing I have ever done, I am so pleased.

“I pushed myself really hard. I don’t remember finishing it, the last thing I remember was asking the people in a boat how long left and they said 150m.

“From there on I just went into autopilot and that took me to the end. I must have asked a million times ‘have I really done it?’

“It shows you are never too old to reach your goals. I was slightly stressed about my age, but I am so glad I did it.

“When you're young you think you are invincible, but I wanted to prove I could still do it.”

In 2002 Trisha also completed the Longest Day Triathlon in 10 hours 56 minutes 23 seconds.

The achievement along with her recently completed Ice Mile earned her the title of Iron Ice Woman according to the International Ice Swimming Association.

Glasgow Times:

She is the oldest woman in the world to hold down the accomplishment after finishing the swim in 38 minutes 44 seconds in December.

Now Trisha is focusing on recovering and training so she can get back into icy wild waters.

She can do this by using her ice bath at home which helps her get used to the cold conditions.

Trisha said: “I've done open water swimming for years, I always enjoyed it.

“It's taken me about a month to get motivated to get back in the cold water, I have been using my ice bath machine at home to prepare myself.

“You feel amazing coming out of icy water. It genuinely gives me a massive high, I love the feeling.

“I also want to thank everyone for helping me achieve my goal. It wouldn't be possible without them.

“The people that help me get dressed after and take me home are so important and all the people who sponsored and donated towards me are so kind, it means a lot.”
