A SCHOOL in Glasgow has been gifted with thousands of pounds worth of sports equipment thanks to a local business.
Factory Weights, a Scottish fitness retail start-up, kindly provided St Mungo’s Academy in the city’s East End the “state-of-the-art” weights, dumbbells and more.
The company’s headquarters, which is situated just a stone’s throw away from the Forge Shopping Centre, offers customers the chance to try equipment before they buy.
Tom Russell, Factory Weights co-founder, said: “We initially set out to provide local schools with better equipment than they may currently have access to.
“But when we met the St Mungo’s staff and got talking, we realised that there was a lot more we could do with the partnership than just supply dumbbells and weight plates.
“We are now working on a series of events for pupils to help develop and nurture an understanding of fitness and also for those pupils that have a real keen interest in potentially exploring the fitness industry as a career.
“It’s been brilliant to get to know the school and hopefully this is just the start of helping to ensure we can make fitness accessible to those who may not have readily available access to a gym or in-school equipment.”
Factory Weights HQ also offers a unique indoor and outdoor gym space that can be utilised by the local community and by fitness professionals.
Earlier this year, the team launched a new PT Academy to help encourage more personal trainers into the industry.
Fiona Sullivan, St Mungo's PE teacher, added: “We are delighted to have been selected to receive the gym equipment for our school.
“It’s really exciting for pupils to get to use equipment that we couldn't previously offer. There are further plans to bring pupils to the on-site gym at Factory Weights for bespoke classes, motivational talks from industry leaders and even nutrition seminars.
“It’s a very positive start to the year and we are looking forward to developing the partnership throughout 2023.’’
