A DRUNK thug punched a stranger on a bus after falling on top of him.

Andrew Roberts, 41, attacked Tsun Him Chu at Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station on October 10, 2022.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Roberts was on the 900 bus heading from Edinburgh to Glasgow.

During the journey, an intoxicated Roberts argued with a passenger and fell down stairs from the top deck.

Prosecutor Tanjeel Maleque said: "As the bus arrived at the station, Roberts attended to get his suitcase from the bus when he fell on Mr Chu.

"He proceeded to protect himself and pushed Roberts away.

"Roberts became aggressive and punched Mr Chu to the face."

Roberts was later dealt with by security staff at the station.

He then brandished a bottle at staff member Polly Boakye.

Police then attended and Roberts lashed out and attempted to break free while being handcuffed.

Roberts pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Chu and Polly Boakye.

He also admitted a third charge of resisting arrest.

Gerry O'Donnell, defending, told the court that Roberts had been to see his mother and had been drinking on the bus.

The lawyer added: "There was a disagreement with the victim and his partner.

"When the bus stopped, he landed on him and they pushed him away.

"This was interpreted negatively due to his inebriation and he hit Mr Chu on the head."

Sheriff Tom Hughes put Roberts on a structured deferred sentence.

He will return to court for a review in August.
