The next stage of the city centre 'Avenues project' is moving forward with work for the Sauchiehall Precinct going out to tender.

Work is due to start within months on the stretch of the famous street between Rose Street and Buchanan Street.

Construction on the Cambridge Street stretch, from Sauchiehall Street to Cowcaddens, is also included in the tender.

For Sauchiehall Street, the work will extend the avenues project that stops where the pedestrian precinct starts.

It will remove the current stepped platforms and introduce more trees

The main points to note within the design for the Sauchiehall Precinct Avenue are as follows.

The work involves creating more space for people to walk, wheel and cycle but allowing public transport to move through the city.

The latest project will maintain the current two lanes of traffic at Hope Street, Renfield Street and West Nile where they cross Sauchiehall Street to minimise any impact on public transport.

Architectural lighting features will be installed at specific locations.
