Steven Gerrard has been named on the bookies' list of possible replacements for Jesse Marsch at Leeds United.

The Premier League outfit decided to part ways with the American after a string of poor results in the English top flight.

Marsch, who was appointed as Marcelo Bielsa’s replacement in February last year, lost his job a day after a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

A statement on the club’s official Twitter account said: “#LUFC can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties.”

The statement continued: “Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season.

“Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club. We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

“The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days.”

Former Rangers and Aston Villa manager Gerrard has now been labelled as a possible replacement at Leeds with Sky Bet currently pricing him at 20/1.

Out of work since he was sacked by Aston Villa in October last year, 42-year-old former Liverpool and England midfielder enjoyed a promising start to his managerial career as he led the Govan outfit to a first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years in 2021.

He was relieved of his duties at Villa Park with the club hovering anxiously just above the bottom three and was recently linked with the Poland job.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is also quoted as an outsider at 33/1, while Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is at 10/1.

The current favourite in the bookies market is West Brom manager Carlos Corberán at 6/4.

Mauricio Pochettino is also in the running at 13/2, he is currently not in a role. A return for Marcelo Bielsa is priced at 9/1.

Former RB Leipzig boss Marsch leaves with the club sitting in 17th place in the table, above the relegation zone only on goal difference.

He won 11 of the 37 games for which he was in charge and eight of 32 in the league and found himself a target for angry fans following the defeat at the City Ground.
