COUNCIL officers have been called out to deal with more than 1500 smell complaints across Glasgow in the last five years.
A freedom of information request by the Glasgow Times revealed that the local authority has received a total of 1529 smell-associated nuisance complaints since 2017, with 2020 seeing the highest number lodged at 298.
There were 259 complaints recorded last year, down from 292 over the previous 12 months.
A bad odour is deemed to be a 'statutory nuisance' if it interferes with the use or enjoyment of a home or other premise, or if it injures health.
Glasgow City Council is able to serve statutory notices on anyone or any business deemed to be causing a nuisance through smell, provided its public health and housing officers can attest to the existence of the stench.
The local authority remains committed to looking into all troublesome aromas reported to them.
