Scotland star Kieran Tierney's game time could be in line for a significant upturn in the near future.

The ex-Celtic left-back has made just four starts so far this season under Mikel Arteta.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has been the clear preferred option on the left side of the Gunners defence, as they look to maintain their title bid in the coming months.

The North London outfit travel to the Midlands tomorrow lunchtime as they take on Aston Villa in another huge Premier League game.

It comes a matter of days after they were toppled off the top of the tree by Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola's side leaving the Emirates with a 3-1 win.

Between the two games are just 63 hours. And Arteta has questioned the schedule between the fixtures, as the manager pointed to Champions League rules which would've prevented such a quick turnaround between the midweek game to the Saturday.

The Spaniard has expressed his concerns about the physical demands this puts on his players. 

So, it appears one of the beneficiaries of the situation, which will involve a rotation of players in the Arsenal team, is Tierney.

Arteta said: "There are certain rules with the Champions League.

"When you are playing on Wednesday night and then you cannot play [on Saturday lunchtime]. So I think that should apply to any competition.

"Following the same principle, I think you are talking physiologically, that is very difficult to turn around on that period to get the best outcome and reduce the injury risk for players.

"They put the schedule the way they did. It's a bit unusual, but it's what it is.

"It's not about being worried or not worried. We have to play. I want the players to be in the best possible mindset and physically ready to get that challenge going."
