A CAT owner has been banned from keeping animals for seven years after her pet was found to have his third eyelid exposed.

Chloe Cochrane, from Knightswood, pleaded guilty to failing to provide veterinary treatment for her cat Max at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

At her recent sentencing hearing, she was handed a seven-year disqualification and ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work following a Scottish SPCA investigation.

Scottish SPCA staff attended the home the 23-year-old had been staying in with Max on October 9, 2020.

He was found to be in pain.

Scottish SPCA inspector Erwin said: “Max was suffering from a condition in his right eye which appeared red, swollen and painful.

"He was not opening his eye fully, the third eyelid was exposed and there was a brown discharge observed.

Glasgow Times:

“He was taken to our Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre so he could receive ongoing care and veterinary treatment.

“On closer inspection, Max was suffering from a severe entropion, where the eyelid rolls inwards causing eyelashes and fur to rub painfully on the surface of the eye, damaging the cornea.

"Multiple masses were also present in the upper and lower eyelids."

Max underwent surgery to make him more comfortable and prevent any further suffering.

The inspector added: “By failing to seek appropriate veterinary attention for Max’s eye, Cochrane caused him a great deal of unnecessary pain and suffering that could have been avoided with prompt veterinary care.

“We are pleased that a disqualification order has been granted which will ensure Cochrane can’t own or keep an animal for seven years."
