A MAN threatened his neighbour with a piece of wood after getting into an argument.

Salman Khan appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court after previously pleading guilty to shouting, swearing, and brandishing the bit of wood in the city's East End.

The 38-year-old was driving home on June 29, 2022, when he got into an argument with another man and started following him.

He appeared outside his house at Springbank Gardens, shouting and trying to get his attention.

Prosecutor Ross Canning said: “The witness appeared at the front door with his wife. It was noted that the accused was under the influence of alcohol.

“He was shouting and swearing and throwing his arms.

“He brandished a piece of wood. Thereafter, he threw it to the ground.

“Police were eventually contacted to attend. In reply to caution and charge, he stated it was not a weapon.”

Mr Canning later confirmed that it was the other man who had the piece of wood originally, with Khan picking it up after it had been “put to one side”.

Sheriff Allan McKay said: “He has a horrendous record. Very poor.”

Khan’s lawyer replied: “He had been involved in an argument and grabbed a piece of wood from his neighbour.

“He threatened him as he was fearful of the initial confrontation. It was never his intention to use it. He’s certainly no stranger to this court. He’s made a lot of progress over the last few months.”

Sheriff McKay told Khan: “You must understand with your record and you appearing in situations like this means I could send you to prison.

"However, there have been some changes since you’ve last been in prison. You’re working to help yourself. I’m willing to offer you an alternative to custody.”

He was ordered to be under social work supervision for one year with a conduct requirement to attend alcohol counselling.

A review will be held in four months’ time.

The sheriff added: “It’s up to you now.”
