A MUM and her son were caught trying to break into a shop in Glasgow in the middle of the night.

Amanda Potter, 47, and Kyle Potter, 22, were spotted by cops in Parkhead at 2.50am on January 3, 2023.

The pair, who were dressed in black, were trying to gain entry to Shaun’s Supermarket on Westmuir Street.

They were seen crouched down, attempting to pry open the large shutters at the front of the shop.

Cops stopped their car next to them and they stood up and ran away.

Officers exited their vehicle and chased them.

Amanda was caught first, and she had a black axe in her hand. She was taken to the ground by an officer and handcuffed.

Meanwhile, the other cop continued to chase Kyle through Parkhead Cross, and eventually restrained him on the ground.

Details of the pair were put through the police system, which revealed that Kyle had live bail conditions to stay in his home between 7pm and 7am.

When cautioned and charged, Amanda replied “nae comment”.

Her son said: “It’s because I’m going through a hard time."

They were taken to Cathcart police office.

The pair appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Sheriff Patricia Pryce asked what Kyle had been subject to bail for, and this included an alleged domestic assault and two alleged theft by housebreaking charges.

The lawyer, who was representing them both, said his client Amanda is aware of the serious charges she pleaded guilty to.

He added that Kyle had recently spent seven days in custody and “doesn’t want to experience that again”.

Sheriff Pryce told Amanda: “You have quite the history but you’ve been out of trouble for 13 years.

“I’ll impose supervision. Take advantage of the support social work will offer you.”

She was ordered to be under social work supervision for 15 months as well as tagged. She will have to stay in her Parkhead home between 7pm and 7am for 14 weeks, as a direct alternative to custody.

The sheriff told Kyle: “You’re building up quite the record. If you continue it will be prison that you’re going to. You need to get yourself sorted before you get in serious trouble.”

He was also ordered to be under social work supervision for 15 months. He was also ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and stay in his home between 7pm and 7am for six weeks, as a direct alternative to custody.
