PLANS to allow pubs to open until 1am have been rejected by a group the council consults on licensing rules.
The proposal was to extend the hours for pubs in the city centre from midnight to 1am to give the licensed trade a boost.
The Glasgow Times revealed the suggestion, made by the SNP administration at the council in December, and the reaction of some in the pub trade, who said it may not help as some pubs cannot afford to stay open until midnight just now with fewer customers and higher costs having an impact.

Now the council’s Local Licensing Forum sub-group, made up of police, health, pub and club trade and residents' groups has given its opinion.
Staffing, other costs and transport were all noted as reasons why it would not be helpful at the moment.
The response was based on evidence including crime information from Police Scotland, data on alcohol-related deaths, views from residents and businesses and the licensed trade.
The city’s Licensing Board will take the final decision this year and if it is to be approved the change would not come into force until later this year and would last for four years.
A report by the Local Licensing Forum sub-group said: “The sub-group considered that a recent proposal to possibly extend the terminal hour for public houses within the city centre to 1am should not be supported.
“The sub-group considered that such a proposal would not necessarily have the benefit of contributing to the late-night economy as there are increasing costs and staffing issues experienced by those in the public house trade.”

One of the reasons was that there is not enough or the right transport to get people home an hour later.
It added: “The sub-group noted that the existing transport provision and times of services within the city centre would not support an extension of terminal hours for city centre public houses to 1am.”
