He told the Glasgow Times: “Everyone has been affected by the cost of living. It is just one of those things.
“I noticed my electricity and gas just skyrocketed and we need to try and keep up with it.
“Customers feel it as well, they might come in and get one sausage supper and share it instead of normally getting two.
“I am just so grateful that they still want to come in and spend money here, I really appreciate it.
“I really enjoy my job, so it means a lot to me that the community supports me, I am so grateful.”
Tony's of Stonehouse was recently crowned the best fish and chip shop in Lanarkshire.
The restaurant scooped the top award at the Scottish Business Awards which were held at Glasgow's Crowne Plaza hotel on Sunday evening.
Tony has had the shop for six years and said the prize was an incredible way to mark the milestone.
Speaking to the Glasgow Times, Tony said: “I wasn’t expecting to win, it was a very tough competition so I was absolutely speechless. It is really fantastic.
“Winning this award made it all worth it, and hopefully it might bring new customers to the shop too.”
Tony credited his win to keeping things simple and fresh for his customers.
He also thanked the community for allowing him to keep doing the job he “loves” and hailed his fish supper “unbeatable”.
