RANGERS legend Ally McCoist has paid tribute to his TalkSport breakfast show buddies for helping him scoop a top award - after he forgot to thank them on stage.

We previously told how Ally was a popular winner of the 'pundit of the year' award at the glitzy Sports Journalist Association bash on Monday night and spoke of his pride at working on some of sport's biggest events for BT and ITV.

But the former Scotland striker took to his Instagram account to say sorry to TalkSport sidekick Laura Woods and Alan Brazil after missing them from his initial roll of honour.

He said: "I wasn't going to do this but I really have to take the opportunity to thank all of you guys for your kind words after picking up that award last night.

"I was absolutely thrilled to bits about it, I really was. I genuinely did not think for a minute that I would have any chance of winning it so I'm really delighted with it.

Glasgow Times:

"I know I was having a joke with Roy Keane and Ian Wright and all the guys, Alan Shearer, but I'll tell you what, when I looked at the list of pundits that were on it, it was a remarkable group of guys.

"I'm very, very fortunate so thanks very much and while I'm here I'm going to thank a couple of people who I never thanked last night.

"I want to thank Laura Woods, who I absolutely loved to bits and love working with. She's absolutely fantastic, I'm sure you'll agree about that.

"And also, big Al, Alan Brazil. How can you not thank big Al after 20-odd years of doing that job? The man's an absolute legend and an absolute delight to work with."

As he picked up the major honour for his broadcasting work in 2022, a humbled Ally said: "In all seriousness, I did not expect to be standing here winning this.

"I look at the competition and the competition is fierce. I love my job, I am the luckiest man alive, I really am.

"Rangers centre forward, Scotland centre forward, and working with the guys at talkSPORT and ITV - I love every minute of it."
