A POPULAR supermarket has been forced to ban youngsters from visiting without an adult after staff were attacked.

Children under 18 will no longer be able to enter Asda's Govan store alone from 6pm.

Bosses made the decision after shop floor workers were terrorised with physical and verbal abuse from gangs of youngsters.

Both police and nearby schools have been contacted by the retail giant in a bid to stamp out the issue which is feared may grow as the summer holidays begin.

An Asda spokesperson said: "We have made the decision not to allow schoolchildren into our Govan, Glasgow store after 6pm following several cases of physical and verbal abuse towards our colleagues.

"We have also spoken to the police and local schools about this decision and will review the situation again after the summer holidays.”

It comes after the Glasgow Times reported similar decisions were made throughout the city.

In the Southside's popular Silverburn Shopping Centre, teens have been barred from entering the McDonald's restaurant after thugs hurled racial, physical and verbal abuse at workers.

Security was stepped up outside the eatery but the anti-social behaviour continued with the restaurant damaged as a result.

A multi-agency approach has been taken by McDonald's, Silverburn and Pollok police officers.

Meanwhile, East End cops were called out to handle another situation at The Forge earlier this week.

Youngsters were reported to be causing a disturbance outside the centre over the weekend, with neighbours branding it "absolutely disgusting".

The teens scattered when police arrived but enquiries are ongoing.

Police Scotland urged anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour to report it.
