A hunt has been launched for two suspects seen fleeing a deliberate arson attack near a football park.

Two cars were destroyed after being set alight while parked outside a home on Rosewood Avenue in Bellshill.

The incident occurred at around 10.06pm on Sunday night.

A Kia Sportage and a Ford Fiesta were targeted, and the extent of the fire caused damage to a nearby vehicle.

Detectives are now trying to track down two men who were seen running through a path at the end of the street towards the football park at Bellshill Boys Club Centre soon after the incident.

Detective Constable Peter King of Wishaw CID said: “Thankfully, the fire did not spread to the house, however, as well as completely destroying the cars, it caused damage to a neighbouring vehicle.

“At this time, we have no explanation as to why these two cars, which belonged to the same household, were targeted.

“Officers are looking to identify two men, descriptions unknown, seen running through a path at the end of Rosewood Avenue toward the nearby football park at Bellshill Boys Club Centre soon after the fires were set.

“I would ask anyone who may have seen anyone in this area before or afterwards to get in touch with police.
