A Glasgow bar has been named among the best in Scotland and the UK in a national award focussing on the country's top watering holes.

The Gate in the city's East End received the honour after it was named one of the finalists.

This comes after the bar won a similar title at the National Pub and Bar Awards earlier this month.

The Class Bar Awards or CBAs said it was "delighted to announce the finalists" this year.

The release of the list of finalists comes ahead of the official awards ceremony at Battersea Arts Centre in London on May 23.

Here, the best bar in the UK as well as in specific categories and regions will be announced.

The Gate named among the best venues in Scotland in Class Bar Awards 2023

The Gate was the only Glasgow pub to be named a finalist in the prestigious awards with all other Scottish locations coming from Edinburgh.

The bar was named among the top venues in the 'Best Bar in Scotland & Northern Ireland Sponsored by The Busker' category.

Customers have also praised the bar on Tripadvisor with the venue gaining a rating of 4.5/5.

One user said of their experience at The Gate: "Had a great night last night, super cosy and stunning cocktails. Whoever invented them for sure knows their stuff. Massive props to the staff, who were attentive, kind, and went the extra mile when I left my wallet!!! Will defo be back :D"

Another added: "The best pub in Glasgow; Staff are excellent, cocktails and drinks are superb, I can't recommend it enough."
