A BARRHEAD mum who left a woman with a serious spinal injury after driving at the victim in her car has been jailed for almost four years.

Alix McIntyre, 25, targeted Jacqueline Prentice during the attack in Pollok on November 26, 2020.

A judge heard how the crime occurred after a "dispute" earlier that day.

First offender McIntyre was sentenced to three years and eight months at the High Court in Glasgow.

She had pleaded guilty in March to assaulting Miss Prentice to her severe injury, permanent impairment and disfigurement as well as to the danger of her life.

The earlier hearing was told how the victim was at her mother's home when she spotted McIntyre driving past in her Volkswagen Golf.

There was then a "shouting match" in the street after the victim left the flat.

McIntyre initially drove off, but returned and headed straight for Miss Prentice.

Prosecutor Lorraine Glancy KC said: "She continued to drive at her pinning her against a wall.

"Miss Prentice was left pinned by the front of the car and her body was across the front.

"The Volkswagen reversed off at speed coming into contact with one of the parked cars before driving off."

Neighbours helped the victim, who was rushed to hospital.

As well as the spinal injury, Miss Prentice also suffered a punctured lung.

She needed surgery and was only able to leave the hospital around a fortnight later.

The court heard the woman still has impaired mobility and continues to use walking sticks.

McIntyre was said to have shown "a high level of remorse" for what happened.

Lord Arthurson cut the jail term from four years due to the late guilty plea.

He told McIntyre: "Your act of violence could have quite easily resulted in a fatality."
