A Tollcross carer lost "self-control” and became abusive to a resident for refusing a biscuit.

Stephanie Millrine swore and pushed a vulnerable person in her care after they turned down a snack from her.

The incident happened while employed as a Care Assistant by Advinia Health Care Limited at Haydale Care Home.

The carer was also verbally and physically inappropriate to several other residents while working at the facility.

While supporting a service user, known as AA, in April last year Millrine pulled them back into their chair by their jumper for trying to stand up.

Days later while helping a service user, known as BB, she said “f*** you then” because they had refused a biscuit and then pushed them into a chair by their shoulders.

Then while supporting a third service user, known as CC, Millrine shouted “don’t grab her like that, you wouldn’t grab your wife like that” when the vulnerable resident tried to hold her colleague's arm.

Then when CC was holding their hand on Millrine's back, she grabbed their arm and said “you wouldn’t touch your wife like that so don’t touch me like that”.

She also told CC they were “disgusting” for scratching their genital area and moved his hand to say “wait until we are out of the room”.

Now she has been given a warning by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) register which will last for 30 months.

The SSSC also reported that in May 2022 while supporting service user, known as EE, Millrine raised her voice to say “you have had tea, it was me who bl**** gave you it’.

Then when EE, who struggles with health conditions, said she did not have dinner the carer shouted “you have had tea I already told you”.

SSSC reported stated: “Social service workers must recognise and use responsibly the power and authority they have when supporting people who use services.

“Instead of positively engaging with each user of services and reassuring them, you resorted to separately grabbing and pushing their hands away.

“You also pushed two residents back into chairs they were attempting to rise from.

“Although there was no actual harm to any of the service users, you exposed them to an unnecessary risk of emotional and physical harm.

“The behaviours are serious. You have failed to support several residents appropriately.

“Your behaviour demonstrates a lack of compassion, understanding and self-control, all of which are fundamental qualities expected from social service workers who are trusted to care for some of the most vulnerable members of society.”
