A RAPIST left his victim so traumatised she thought about leaping out a 12th-floor window to escape.

Shaun Phillips preyed on the sleeping woman at his flat in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire on February 27, 2021.

The 26-year-old is now behind bars after he was jailed for five years at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday.

Phillips had been found guilty of rape after a trial in Lanark last month.

Sentencing, Judge Douglas Brown said the predator had "took advantage" of the woman while having "complete disregard" for the impact the attack would have on her.

He added: "When she awoke ... she considered jumping out the window of your 12th-floor flat."

The victim had been described as "scared, shaking and constantly crying" after her ordeal.

Phillips was also put on the sex offenders list indefinitely.

Prosecutors stated Phillips pounced on the woman while she was intoxicated, asleep and unable to consent.

His lawyer told the hearing the rapist had the support of his brother, who had attended court.

Marco Guarino, defending, added: "He has maintained his innocence.

"However, he has asked me to indicate that, while this is so, he does accept the finding of the jury."
